Senior Project SQA Engineer #1222A

Job Description:

BigBand Networks enjoys a position as a leading supplier of innovative network solutions for the communications industry, including cable TV operators and telephone companies participating in triple play opportunities.

The Systems Integration & Testing Engineer has primary responsibility of testing BigBand Networks Switched Digital Video solutions. Testing involves functionality testing, integration testing with third party devices as required and Tier 3 technical support.

You will develop system test plans, build test beds, conduct tests on different applications/ environments, and interface with R&D for problem resolution.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities & Tests to be performed include:

·         Perform new feature and regression testing of BigBand Networks Switched Digital Video solution in an integrated environment.

·         Develop and execute strong test plans by analyzing requirements, design specs, researching new technologies and its implementation in BigBand Networks products.

·         Design and implement complex test beds and network topologies.

·         System Data Flow testing

·         Scalability and Performance testing

·         Network Protocol Related testing (RPC, RTSP, IGMP, ICMP, RIP, OSPF)

·         MPEG Video Analysis testing

·         Stress and stability testing

·         Automation testing

·         Analyze system logs, work with development and engineering teams to drive system problems to closure.

Requirements:

Qualifications

·         Experience in Digital Video Equipment testing, Systems integration testing, Motorola/SA Headend Experience, Cisco Routers Configuration Experience, Networking testing Experience.

·         Configuring and debugging Video devices in an IP networking environment

·         Must have methodical debugging techniques and network diagnostics skills.

·         Hands-on experience with IP Analyzers experience including the IXIA, Etherpeek, Ethereal  or other networking diagnostic equipment.

·         MPEG Analyzers experience including the Acterna DTS/Tektronix MTS/MTM, IneoQuest is a must.

·         Perl/Winrunner/Silk, Knowledge of OSI model, TCP/IP/UDP

·         Linux/Unix operating systems experience is a plus

Education

·         BS or MS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or equivalent plus 6 to 8 years of Systems Testing/QA Experience.

Switched digital video server is BigBand's flagship and market leading product that can handle tens of thousands of channel change transactions. Switched digital servers are deployed and currently serving approximately 11 million digital cable subscribers.

You will design, develop, test and debug mission critical switched digital video server on Linux platform. Work with talented development team to ensure that use of agile software development techniques like design and architectural patterns and re-usable software blocks to expedite the software development cycles. Define and develop next generation bandwidth management algorithms to minimize the BW fragmentation and eliminate BW rejections with proper packing of SD and HD channels in available BW slots. Performance tuning of the server design and code to minimize the channel change latency under heavy load. Define and design the switched digital video server use cases like channel changes, carousel streaming, session management, Subscriber management and topology management. 

 

Requirements:

Qualifications

·         6-10 years of software development experience on Linux/UNIX platform using C++, STL, COM and CORBA.

·         Strong knowledge of object-oriented software architecture and design patterns

·         Experience in sockets programming

·         Familiarity with network protocols (SNMP, TCP, UDP, IP)

·         Extensive knowledge of Linux/UNIX system APIs for synchronization objects, file system, shared memory, networking etc

·         Familiarity with XML, Syslog

·         Excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills

·         Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Skills

·         Familiarity with Java, RDBMS (Oracle, MySQL) ClearCase/Continuus/VSS

Debug interoperability issues with other vendor’s equipment in support of BigBand deployments. Act as escalation point from the Customer Support team for complex technical problems requiring lab replication prior to escalation to Engineering.

Network design, project management, and large system deployment experience are all necessary skills

Experience in a customer support environment with demonstrated troubleshooting expertise

Ability to interface in a professional manner with our customers

A Cisco qualification (CCNA preferred), good working knowledge of supporting Layer 3 routing

Cable engineering background and a familiarity with digital video systems, as well as MPEG2 transport is important

DNCS or DAC familiarity is a plus

The Project Manager in the SBSS team is responsible for the on time, on budget and on quality delivery of committed projects.

Responsibilities:

Prior to any commitment the Project Manager plans the high level project with the Product Manager to assess the feasibility of the project. SBSS products also require multiple interoperability testing, which the project manager is responsible to plan and work with partners to accomplish the interoperability. The Project Manager is also in charge of escalations from the field for his/her project as well as the scheduling of maintenance and patch releases.
